Srinagar, Feb 14: The Ministry of Home Affairs, through the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, has issued a public alert warning government employees about a cyber fraud related to the proposed 8th Pay Commission.
According to officials, scammers are circulating WhatsApp messages claiming that employees can check their revised salary by downloading a special APK file. Authorities clarified that this is a fraud. Once the APK is installed, cyber criminals can gain access to the mobile phone and misuse personal or banking information.
A social media warning shared by J&K Police also explains that fraudsters are targeting government employees with messages promising salary details after implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. The message warns that downloading such APK files directly gives control of the device to scammers.
The advisory clearly states that the Government never sends APK files through WhatsApp or unofficial links. Employees and citizens have been advised to download apps only from trusted sources and verify salary, pension, or pay commission updates through official government portals.
Authorities have urged people to stay alert and avoid clicking suspicious links or downloading unknown files shared through messaging platforms.
