Heat Wave: DSEK Revises School Timings Across Kashmir

In response to the ongoing heat wave in Kashmir, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has revised the school timings.

According to the new schedule, schools within Srinagar Municipal limits will now operate from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, while those outside the municipal boundaries and in other districts of Kashmir will function from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

This change comes after several stakeholders requested a shift in timings due to the rising temperatures. Education Minister Sakina Itoo confirmed that the decision was made following complaints from parents about children feeling unwell and dizzy during morning assemblies held under the sun.

She directed school authorities to adjust the schedule accordingly and advised that morning assemblies be held in shaded areas to protect students from direct sunlight.

Earlier reports from Greater Kashmir indicated that the School Education Department (SED) was already considering the move. Additionally, the minister mentioned that recent cross-border shelling had also affected academic activities in schools.
