Srinagar, March 26, 2025: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced a change in the holiday observance for Shab-i-Qadr,one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar. As per Government Order No. 412-JK(GAD) of 2025, issued by the General Administration Department, the holiday originally scheduled for March 27 (Thursday) will now be observed on March 28 (Friday).

The decision, approved by the Lieutenant Governor, modifies earlier orders (No. 2193 and 2194 of 2024) issued on December 29, 2024. The notification, signed by commissioner/Secretary M. Raju (IAS), cited administrative reasons for the adjustment but did not elaborate further.

Shab-i-Qadr, or the Night of Power, marks the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and is observed with night-long prayers and religious reflections. The rescheduling aligns the public holiday with the actual observance of the occasion, ensuring minimal disruption to government operations.

The order has been circulated to all senior officials, including the Police Chief, Divisional Commissioners, and Deputy Commissioners, as well as central government representatives. Urdu and Hindi versions of the notification will follow shortly.

Key Takeaways:

- New Holiday Date:March 28, 2025 (Friday).

- Reason: Unspecified administrative requirements.

- Scope: Applicable across all government offices and institutions in Jammu & Kashmir.

citizens and employees are advised to take note of the change for planning purposes.
