From 7 to 9 March, the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy across most parts of the region. Some isolated locations may receive light rain while higher altitude areas could experience light snowfall.
The weather activity is expected to increase between 10 March and 12 March. During this period, many districts across the Kashmir Valley may receive light to moderate rainfall. At the same time, higher reaches including mountain areas of Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal and Anantnag may witness snowfall.
Weather experts say that these conditions are linked to a western disturbance moving towards the Himalayan region. Such systems commonly bring precipitation to northern India and the Kashmir Valley during late winter and early spring.
A noticeable drop in daytime temperatures is also expected during this period. Forecasts suggest that day temperatures across several places may fall by around 4 to 6 degrees Celsius after 9 March. Cooler conditions may continue until about 12 March.
Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities carefully during this period. Weather observers suggest avoiding spraying pesticides or fertilizers during rain days as moisture can reduce effectiveness and damage crops.
Travel in higher altitude areas may also become slower due to wet roads or possible snowfall in mountain regions. However, no major disruptions have been predicted at this stage.
The weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy even after 12 March, with occasional light rain in plains and light snowfall in some higher locations until around mid March.
Residents across Jammu and Kashmir are advised to stay updated with the latest weather updates as conditions may change depending on the movement of the weather system.
