A circular issued by the Directorate of Colleges underlines that 39 colleges across J&K will now admit students primarily on the basis of CUET (Common University Entrance Test) merit. The decision follows a consultative process involving district-level discussions with Principals and Nodal Officers and a high-level meeting chaired by the Financial Commissioner (ACS) of the Higher Education Department on April 11, 2025.

- Srinagar, Anantnag, Pulwama, Baramulla, Budgam, Kulgam, Ganderbal, Shopian, Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua and Poonch.
➡️ All other colleges not mentioned in the list will continue to admit students based on 10+2 academic merit and are classified as Non-CUET colleges for the upcoming admissions.

The notification, signed by **Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir**, Director of Colleges, J&K, emphasizes the aim to provide a transparent and merit-based admission system aligning with national standards.
The circular (No: DC-HE/2025/Admission/1121) is dated **June 12, 2025**, and has been circulated to all relevant academic and administrative bodies across the Union Territory.

Students aspiring to join premier government colleges in J&K for the 2025-26 academic year must appear for the CUET to be eligible for admission to any of the 39 designated institutions. Others can apply on the basis of their Class 12 results to the remaining Non-CUET colleges.
