New Delhi, June 11: The central NDA government is set to announce a major benefit for employees. Under the National Pension Scheme (NPS), a proposal has been made to provide a pension amounting to 50% of an employee's final basic salary. In response to criticisms of the NPS and the trend of states reverting to the old pension system, Finance Department Secretary TV Somanathan explained, "In 2023, the Central Government established a committee to explore ways to enhance NPS benefits. Following the committee's recommendations, the newly elected NDA government is proposing to grant employees 50% of their last basic salary as a pension." The Somanathan Committee suggested several reforms to the NPS, and the Center has made a new decision based on these. However, Kavi T did not specify a timeline for implementing these recommendations.
